Privacy Policy

Last updated June 25, 2026

This policy explains what Social Media Clipper ("we", "us") collects when you use the web app, CLI, MCP server, and API, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We collect the minimum we need to clip your videos and run your account — nothing more.

Information we collect

  • Account data. When you sign up we receive your name, email address, and authentication identifiers from our auth provider, Clerk. We never see or store your password.
  • Content you process. The videos you upload or link, and the transcripts, clips, captions, and b-roll generated from them. This is your content — we process it only to provide the service.
  • Usage data. Minutes of video transcribed, plan tier, and operational logs (request timestamps, error traces) used to enforce limits and keep the service reliable.
  • Billing data. Subscription status and invoices, handled by our payment processor. We do not store full card numbers.

How we use your information

  • To transcribe, analyze, edit, and render your videos into clips.
  • To authenticate you and keep your projects scoped to your account.
  • To meter usage against your plan and process billing.
  • To diagnose errors, prevent abuse, and improve reliability.
  • To send service and account notifications you can’t opt out of (e.g. security and billing).

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your video content or transcripts to train our own models.

Subprocessors

We rely on a small set of vetted providers to run the service. Your data is shared with them only to the extent needed to deliver it:

  • Clerk — authentication and user management.
  • Cloud object storage — encrypted storage of your source videos and rendered clips.
  • Transcription provider — speech-to-text on the audio you submit.
  • AI provider — clip detection and editing suggestions over your transcript.
  • Payment processor — subscription billing.

Note: when you ingest a public URL via the CLI or your agent, the download runs on your own machine via yt-dlp — the video reaches our servers only after you upload it for processing.

Data retention

Your projects, source media, transcripts, and clips are retained while your account is active so you can return to them. You can delete a project at any time, which removes its media and derived files. When you close your account, we delete your content within 30 days, except where we’re required to keep records (e.g. invoices) for legal reasons.

Security

Media is stored in encrypted object storage and served over signed, short-lived URLs. Project access is scoped to the owning account, and transport is encrypted with TLS. No system is perfectly secure, but we design to limit blast radius and apply the principle of least privilege.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly from your account settings, or by contacting us. We’ll respond within a reasonable time and won’t discriminate against you for exercising a right.

Children

Social Media Clipper is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above, and where appropriate we’ll notify you in-app or by email.
